‘Allez Opi-Omi’: cycling fan who caused a massive crash in Tour on Thursday Cycling

Organizer Amaury Sport Organization (ASO) first filed a complaint, but then withdrew it. However, the international cyclists’ union (CPA) held their ground, as a result of which the careless spectator ends up in court. Her being ‘endangering others’ and ‘inflicting accidental injuries resulting in incapacity for work for up to three months’.

Tony Martin, meanwhile stopped, was the first rider to crash into the ‘Allez Opi-Omi’ sign in the opening stage to Landerneau. His fall had a domino effect.

Laura Mora of the CPA riders’ union insists it was “a really irresponsible act.” “It is not for us to do money,” the union woman told the French news agency AFP. “We don’t plan to ask for compensation in that area either, but we do want more respect and responsibility from the public who attend cycling races.”
