Alex Zverev and Sophia Thomalla are on cloud nine. They have been a couple for almost two months. Thomalla accompanies him at the ATP tournament in Vienna – only traveled back to Cologne for a shoot on Thursday.
If Zverev survives the quarter-finals against Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime this Friday, Thomalla should be back in the Austrian capital by the weekend at her boyfriend at the latest to keep both fingers crossed for the German number one.
Although Zverev and Thomalla are deeply in love, the tennis star and the TV presenter always kept a respectful “love distance” in public this week. There is no new, joint photo of the two in Vienna. There is a simple reason for this.
Alex Zverev: “Sophia is very understanding”
Thomalla is a big sports fan and knows the situation very well when things get down to business on the pitch. The 32-year-old does not want to disturb Zverev in his concentration phase on the tournament victory. Instagram photos of the two would probably only distract Zverev.
“Sophia is very understanding and knows what tennis means to me,” explains Zverev in “Blick”. The 24-year-old is aiming for success. He hopes, however, that Thomalla will be back in Vienna by the semi-finals at the latest, which made the relationship between the two public on Instagram at the beginning of October.
“Just because it has now become public, it doesn’t mean that we haven’t been together for a long time,” says Zverev with a wink. Thomalla was at his side two weeks ago at the tournament in Indian Wells. In Vienna, however, she appeared in public for the first time.
Full concentration on the next Zverev match
Every photographer who had hoped for a love photo of the two looked into the tube. Both in the tennis hall and in front of the hotel, Zverev and Thomalla were always a few meters apart. Kiss photos or tender hugs – none of them.
“She knows what it means to have a relatively serious job. She is also a woman who has a lot to do, nobody who just sits in the hotel room all the time,” continues Zverev, who is now on his next match against Auger -Aliassime focused.
