A Ligue 1 match in China? The only thing missing is the FIFA agreement!

This is the wish of the Professional Football League (LFP) which would like to relocate a beautiful Ligue 1 poster in February 2022, in China. According to AFP, this operation requires a waiver from FIFA.

The target meeting for this event would be “Monaco-Lyon” during the 23rd day of the championship, indicates the newspaper L’Équipe. For some time now, Ligue 1 has wanted to shine more internationally, when we know the popularity of other major leagues.

According to the French newspaper L’Équipe, the match should take place in Shanghai. Jean-Michel Aulas, the president of OL, would have discussed it with the leader of AS Monaco. “This is an ambitious operation for the image of the L1 and its distribution”, underlines the President of Lyon.

An impossible project?

In the past, similar requests from Spain’s La Liga have been turned down by FIFA.

The LFP for its part hopes to serve as a laboratory for this kind of meeting to take place more often. According to AFP, the LFP “will take official steps to obtain an exceptional exemption.”
