Of the five quarterbacks chosen in the first round of the most recent NFL Draft, only San Francisco 49ers Trey Lance has yet to start a regular season game for his team.
After four weeks of activity in the NFL, Trevor Lawrence (Jacksonville Jaguars), Zach Wilson (New York Jets), Justin Fields (Chicago Bears) and Mac Jones (New England Patriots) all had this chance. .
This scenario could change at the start of the fifth week, however. During the fourth game of his family, Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, Lance came in relief to Jimmy Garoppolo, injured in the second quarter.
“Every week he’s asked to approach the situation like he’s going to be the starting quarterback,” said head coach Kyle Shanahan at a press conference with the media on Monday. Lance could also have quite a challenge in his hands on Sunday, as the 49ers face the Arizona Cardinals, who have yet to lose this season.
Nothing is certain for the young pivot, however, since the magnetic resonance imaging test carried out on Garoppolo showed a simple contusion to a calf.
“It’s not as bad as we initially thought,” Shanahan added. He introduced himself today [lundi] and he still feels pain. Hoping that when he comes back on Wednesday he will feel better and have a chance to play. We see it as a contusion. If things haven’t improved on Wednesday, we’ll consider a slightly longer absence. ”
Regardless of who Garoppolo or Lance is leading the attack, they should be able to count on the presence of offensive lineman Trent Williams. The latter had left the game of his family against the Seahawks, but more fear than harm in his case.
