35 minutes, 44 penalties shot … The incredible penalty shootout that will go into the record books

Two English teams broke a record for the length of a penalty shoot-out.

It is not yet the world record but two English teams put 44 shots on goal to decide between themselves in a match of local cup, beating the British record in the matter (34). The world record is held by a match in Namibia (48 shots on goal).

In this match between the Old Wulfrunians and Lane Head, each player had to shoot two shots on goal each, the two teams not being able to decide after regulation time (3-3). And it was Wolverhampton’s Old Wulfs team that ended up winning 19-18.

The Sun reports that the session started at 9:30 p.m. in front of 60 supporters who had to wait until 10:05 p.m. to see one of the two teams triumph.

There is no shortage of anecdotes about this epic penalty shootout, but it was the reaction of a defeated team leader that was the funniest: “It was great to be involved in such a memorable game. we are disgusted to have lost … “

The reaction of the last scorer of this match, filmed by his club, also says a lot about the weariness that was beginning to win even the actors of this unique match.
