2021 – Lucy Renshall: British judoka wins silver at the Paris Grand Slam

Renshall was European champion at U21 and U23 level

The British Lucy Renshall took silver at the Paris Grand Slam after losing to the Portuguese Barbara Timo in the -63kg final.

Renshall competed for the first time since her opening-round loss to Japanese Miku Tashiro at the Tokyo Olympics in July.

The 25-year-old defeated the Frenchman Manon Deketer with an armlock in the semifinals.

However, the final went to Golden Score and Timo landed a waza-ari for the win.

It is the fourth Grand Slam medal for Renshall after winning silver in Abu Dhabi (2017) and Ekaterinburg (2019) and her first gold in Antalya in April.

“To get a medal at the Paris Grand Slam is incredible,” said Renshall from England.

“It’s been a tough day, especially the first one after the Olympics and some time out, but I’m excited to fight again and get results and look forward to the next one to hopefully get even better.”
