1.5 billion euros approaching FC Barcelona

This Saturday took place the general assembly of FC Barcelona members where they agreed to a loan of 1.5 billion euros to renovate the Camp Nou. The final decision must be voted on in a referendum, which will take place shortly.

The FC Barcelona socios have approved the Catalan management’s request to finance the renovation work on Camp Nou with the help of a loan of 1.5 billion euros. This financing project was validated by 405 voters, 21 disagreed while 6 blank votes were counted.

The final decision must be ratified in a referendum. If validated, FC Barcelona will have to repay the loan over the next 30 years. The work would begin next summer and end in June 2025. The loan would also allow the renovation of the stadium for the women’s team, the gymnasium for the basketball team and also urbanization works in the city.

During the General Assembly, President Joan Laporta gave a speech full of optimism on the economic benefits that the new Camp Nou will have for the Catalan club: “The modernization of our facilities is necessary in order not to lose competitiveness with our competitors. . This is a question that has never been resolved since the Barça 2000 project. Imagine that the Camp Nou brings in 120 million euros a year today. With Espai Barça, it will be double. Among these additional revenues, part will finance Espai Barça. We are strengthening ourselves economically. ”

In the meantime, Barça receives Real Madrid, Sunday at 4:15 p.m., for the first clasico of the season.
