Maverick Vinales was surprised by Fabio Quartararo’s cold reaction to his departure from Yamaha. Vinales also struggled when tandem with Valentino Rossi.

The Spaniard has partnered with Quartararo at Yamaha this season. However, the fortunes of the two riders were inversely proportional: Vinales sank, while Quartararo continued to race even as the leading favorite to hold the 2021 MotoGP world title.

Coupled with a worsening relationship, Vinales finally agreed to part ways with the Japanese manufacturer after the Styria MotoGP title in early August. The departure of Vinales was colored by accusations that the driver intentionally damaged his motorbike during the race.

After parting ways with Yamaha, Vinales immediately joined Aprilia. Quartararo seemed indifferent to the situation of his former team-mate.

“Well, that’s something I don’t really care about,” said the Frenchman at Silverstone a week ago. “I’m focused on my work, so it’s something that doesn’t affect me.”

Vinales did not have to wait long to make his debut with his new team. Line up to replace Lorenzo Salvadori, the 26-year-old will race again for the remainder of the season, starting with the Aragon series.

“I didn’t expect this from Fabio, because we have always had a very good relationship. But maybe it’s because he is doing well in the championship and is focusing on himself,” Vinales told reporters. The Gazzetta dello Sport. “So it’s only fair that he said that.”

Prior to Quartararo, Vinales had experienced four seasons in a duet with Valentino Rossi at Yamaha. At the end of MotoGP 2020, Rossi left before being followed by Vinales in the next half of the season.

Regarding Vinales’ breakup with Yamaha, the Doctor I hope both parties make up. “Valentino… the truth is I’ve always had a good relationship with him.”

“We have gone through many difficult times, but we have always supported each other. It is difficult to be a tandem with him in terms of image and fans, but overall our relationship is very good on and off the track,” added Vinales.
