Verstappen and Hamilton in conversation with drivers’ union chairman: “Third crash plausible”

Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton are fighting a hot battle for the Formula 1 world championship, which has already led to two widely reported incidents. Alex Wurz, chairman of the drivers’ union, believes that it does not stop there and, among other things, talks with the main players.

Wurz talks to Sky Sports into the hot-tempered battle between the two gentlemen. “I think it is very likely that a third collision between Verstappen and Hamilton awaits us,” he says. “Of course this is part of sport. Whether it is boxing, football, handball or any other sport. When two greats clash, things like this happen.”

Much respect for each other

The chairman believes that both incidents so far have been racing incidents and he therefore shows understanding. “Outside the cars I talk to both drivers and they talk to each other. They have a lot of respect for each other and that is good to see. But on the track they are fighting for a Formula 1 world title. One of the most prestigious titles in the world of sport. They have to fight, that’s part of the sport. Hopefully with respect for each other and their own team. To be first you have to finish,” he rightly notes.

Wurz talks

Wurz indicates that he will talk to Verstappen and Hamilton in response to the latest crash, but cannot prevent everything. “You have to put yourself outside the car, only they understand the choices they are making. They are people too. They were angry about the failed pit stops and how the race went. You know you only have one chance. In this case it seemed that both Verstappen and Hamilton failed due to the immense pressure.”
