U.S. National Archives & DVIDS

The items in this collection are from the US National Archives and Defense Visual Information Distribution Service. The US National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) was founded in 1934 by President Franklin Roosevelt. NARA maintains the state records that are believed to have lasting value – about 2 to 5 percent of the records made in any given year. There are roughly 10 billion pages of text records; 12 million maps, diagrams, and architectural and construction drawings; 25 million still photos and graphics; 24 million aerial photos; 300,000 rolls of film; 400,000 video and audio recordings; and 133 terabytes of electronic data. The Defense Visual Information Distribution Service connects the world media and American military personnel serving both domestically and abroad. All of these materials are retained because they are important to the work of government, have long-term research value, or provide valuable information to citizens.

Disclaimer: A work in the US National Archives and DVIDS is “a work produced by a federal government official or employee” as part of that person’s official duties. In general, such works do not qualify for domestic copyright protection under US law under Section 105 of the Copyright Act and are therefore in the public domain. This website is developed as part of the world’s largest public domain archive, PICRYL.com, and is not developed or endorsed by the US National Archives or DVIDS. https://www.picryl.com
