The new World Cup season begins on the weekend in Hamburg. Austria is represented in the individual competitions on Saturday by the Olympic duo Julia Hauser and Luis Knabl as well as the U23 World Cup sixth Leon Pauger. For Knabl it is the last appearance this year.

Sara Vilic is in the team competition on Sunday, which means that the Austrian Triathlon Association (ÖTRV) provides the required four participants after missing the Olympic mixed. Next week the EM will be in Valencia, where the ÖTRV only mentioned Hauser and Martin Demuth.

Knabl ends his competition year after the competitions in the Hanseatic city. According to sports director Robert Michlmayr, the Tyrolean competed in races in the German Bundesliga, among others, after the games, but now the air is a bit out. After the task in Tokyo, it should work out again with a good result at the weekend. For Pauger, on the other hand, Hamburg is his second World Cup race after Leeds in June (39th). Michlmayr: “He has relatively little pressure, it’s about a solid result in midfield.”

Hauser has recently kept going nationally, the Viennese had to give up in the Olympiatriathlon after a blow to the head while swimming. For Vilic, individual championship races are not yet an issue after switching to a training group run by the North American Paulo Sousa last year. “She works a lot in the basic area and should progress in the basic area,” said Michlmayr about the Carinthian.

Perterer on the way back

In the team competition, as much experience as possible should be gathered in the direction of the 2024 Olympics. Lisa Perterer is currently not yet fully available. The Carinthian has already trained a lot after a tendon injury in her right leg in Tokyo, after having previously been active in running with aqua jogging. From the medical side, Perterer already has the confirmation that it is suitable for competitions.

Lukas Hollaus, the fourth Austrian Olympic athlete from Tokyo (34th), on the other hand, has ended his career on an international level. The first Olympics of the family man of three had already been planned as a worthy conclusion for the 34-year-old who will be 34 until Thursday next week.
