Tommy Robredo wins the City of Albacete Tennis

The Girona-born Tommy Robredo has been proclaimed the winner of the 36th edition of the Ciudad de Albacete International Tennis Trophy, after beating Guillermo García López from Albacete in two rounds, 7-5 and 6-4, after two hours of play. In this way, the Catalan tennis player inscribes his name for the first time in the record of this tournament, which includes names such as Rafa Nadal, Albert Costa, Sergi Bruguera, Alex Corretja, David Ferrer and many other legends of Spanish tennis.

The match began evenly until a break by García López put him with a clear advantage of 5-3, but he was able to maintain his serve and Robredo linked four consecutive games to finish winning 7-5. The second round starts with a break from Olot’s tennis player, who becomes 4-1. However, the manchego manages to cut back although not enough, because after several breaks by both players, Guillermo cannot keep the serve with 5-4 down, and in this way, Tommy Robredo gets the victory and his first City Trophy of Albacete.

The court of the Albacete Tennis Club registered a full house, respecting the capacity of 75% allowed.

The mayor of Albacete, Emilio Sáez, the councilor for sports, Modesto Belinchón, the provincial deputy for sports, Daniel Sancha, Paco Navarro and Celia Sevillano councilors of the Albacete City Council attended the final. For his part, the Delegate of the Board in Albacete, Pedro Antonio Ruiz Santos, along with Agustín Moreno, former councilor and former vice president of the Provincial Council, have received recognition from the club on the 20th anniversary of the Davis Cup. TRIBUTE TO DAVIS CUP

In the post-match awards ceremony, the Albacete Tennis Club has commemorated 20 years of the celebration of the Davis Cup Spain Uzbekistan tie, which took place from September 21 to 23, 2001 on the center court of the Albacete Tennis Club.

The organization has prepared an event where the then president of the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation, Agustín Pujol, was present, accompanied by representatives of the various groups that participated in the tie, public institutions, managers of the Albacete Tennis Club, volunteer personnel , ball boy, etc.

Through videos, the four members of the Spanish team have intervened on those days. Alex Corretja, Carlos Moyá, Juan Carlos Ferrero and Joan Balcells.
