The trauma that still haunts Kevin Durant

At the end of an Olympic campaign concluded with gold and the title of MVP, Kevin Durant currently finds his teammate of the Nets. However, he approaches the new NBA season with indelible regret, which may continue for a long time to come.

Like last season, they come to training camp with a huge desire to win, and a burning desire to be crowned champions within a few months. New favorites for the title at the dawn of this 2021-22 campaign, the Nets will obviously count on Kevin Durant to offer them the first Larry O’Brien trophy in their history. Yet, with one tiny detail, they could potentially already have one.

It was indeed a few centimeters, last June, for Brooklyn to reach the Eastern Conference finals. In a historic Game 7 against the Bucks, the franchise believed for a few seconds to have snatched its qualification, thanks to a monstrous shoot from KD. Slowdowns, however, showed that the shot was only worth two points, which led to overtime, and an elimination for Steve Nash’s men.

After the meeting, the Slim Reaper could obviously only to show oneself in great distress, frustrated at not having paid enough attention to the position of his feet. Without this, BKN would have had the way open to the rest of the playoffs, and undoubtedly had all the talent necessary to overcome the Hawks and Suns. Impossible for them, unfortunately, to redo the course of history today.

And if he would certainly like to erase this episode from his memory, Durant still has to face it. Recently interviewed on the subject by Malika Andrews for The Jump, he admitted that this shot still haunted his thoughts.

Oh yeah sure I still think about it. I definitely wish I had been behind the line, but you know it’s like that. It was really a very, very big series, in which I really enjoyed participating. And it really looked like a series for the title, because they ended up winning it afterwards.

Failing to be able to put it behind him, the double MVP of the Finals will perhaps seek to use this disillusion as an example to no longer follow. It therefore seems unlikely to see him make the same mistake during the next postseason. Nets fans won’t complain.

On the verge of offering a masterful qualification to his team, and perhaps a title thereafter, Kevin Durant was disillusioned. Now try to forget this sequence, with other even more resounding exploits!
