The stars of the national sport meet in Teruel

Teruel will stop being the next day September 20, at least for a day, part of the so-called Spain empties to be filled with the best athletes in the country. The city, stage of the XL edition of the National Sports Gala, will be the protagonist of a festive and cultural day with a great impact. The event, lasting an hour and a half, will be broadcast live by Spanish Television Through the Teledeporte channel and from the Los Planos pavilion, the venue of the event, a program from Estudio Estadio will be recorded.

The top figures of national sport will parade through Teruel. The badminton champion Carolina Marin; the one who was considered for years the best goalkeeper in the world, Iker Casillas; or the first Olympic champion in the history of climbing, Alberto Gines, have met in Teruel. Adriana Cerezo, Tokyo 2020 taekwondo runner-up and swimmer Teresa Perales, with 27 medals in Paralympics, will also visit the Mudejar capital. In the Gala, 25 awards will be distributed, the last of them dedicated to pioneers of the sport, among them the ex-boxer Joana Pastrana.

As explained this Friday in Teruel Julian Redondo, President of the Spanish Association of Sports Press (AEPD) – organizer of the event – “This will be the Gala to start over”, since the event had to be suspended in 2020 due to the pandemic. In this sense, film director José Luis Garci, winner of an Oscar for his film ‘Start Over’ and passionate about sports, will open the ceremony. Part of the music to be performed will be by the recently deceased composer from Teruel Anton Garcia April and the drums of Teruel will be present.

“It will be a cultural show with the cream of sport”, highlighted the vice president of the AEPD, Jesus Alvarez, who in turn thanked the president of the Teruel Sports Press Association, Jose Antonio Garcia, his commitment to make the National Gala landfall in the Mudejar capital, reminding everyone that “Teruel exists.” As part of the celebration, the people of Teruel get a closer look at the famous Davis Cup salad bowl. The organization will try to get famous athletes to come to the city center so that fans can take pictures with them, not an easy task due to the covid.

About a thousand people, including athletes, journalists, sponsors and guests, will travel to Teruel, which will make hotels fill up. The Councilor for Sports, Carlos Aranda, has considered “a proud” organize the celebration and the general director of Sports of the DGA, Javier de Diego, has offered all his collaboration.
