The “Revs” simply too strong

Wilfried Nancy refused to be the underdog against the New England Revolution, but we have to admit that the Revs were simply better in a 4-1 victory in a mortuary atmosphere at Stade Saputo on Wednesday night.

Montreal started the game with aplomb and Romell Quioto slipped a few inches from the net in the seventh minute, but it was only a mirage, as New England led 3-0 after half an hour of play.

And even at 3-1 in the second half, Montreal was unable to take advantage of all of its opportunities as the Revs fell back in defense. There were a lot of crosses, but not enough shots.

As a result of the loss, Montreal slipped one position in the standings to find itself in eighth place and out of the playoff portrait while Atlanta jumped from eighth to fourth place with a victory over Miami.

It all started with a return from James Pantemis who found himself in the feet of Dejuan Jones (10th minute).

Then Zorhan Bassong left too much space for Brandon Bye, whose cross passed through Gustavo Bou to Adam Buksa who made 2-0 in the 17th minute.

The Revs put it back in the 30th when a somewhat innocuous shot from Tajon Buchanan deflected on Rudy Camacho who was falling at the same time. This goal against his camp from the French defender killed the little atmosphere that remained in the stadium.

The somewhat sparse crowd woke up two minutes later when a beautiful one-on-one play from Joaquin Torres that ended with a good shot into the top corner closed the lead to 3-1.

Gustavo Bou added to the score in the 86th minute for the Revs.

The Montreal attack has often been predictable. We went up the corridors, we centered and then we often lost the ball.

In doing so, we often took Djordje Mihailovic out of the equation, he who is the best playmaker on the team.

Meanwhile, New England offered a master class on offense.

Montreal had a hard time containing the visitors who showed up in large numbers, with five or six players in the box of James Pantemis.

In addition, the sports director of CF Montreal, Olivier Renard, confirmed to the TVA Sports network that the season of the striker Mason Toye was over.

Injured to a shoulder, the 22-year-old American is still the top scorer of the Montreal eleven. He had amassed seven successes in 14 games.

7,5/10 Zachary Brault-Guillard

Very good entry for him from a defensive point of view, in addition to energizing the attack in his lane.

7,5/10 Mathieu Choinière

A rare ray of sunshine in this performance. He plays well in his lane trying to create things on offense.

7/10 Joel Waterman

He does not hesitate to go to the duel and gains in confidence. Not easy in the face of such an offensive machine.

7/10 Kamal Miller

A job generally well done. Sometimes we would like it to have a little more sparkle.

7/10 Djordje Mihailovic

We don’t give him a lot of balloons, which is unfortunate. His defensive involvement is commendable.

7/10 Joaquin Torres

He scores a beautiful goal, but he still loses a lot of balls.

6,5/10 Ballou Tabla

He added a little offensive poise, but one man alone can’t change everything in a lack of momentum on the pitch.

6,5/10 Victor Animals

Not as effective as in his last games, some imprecise passes.

6,5/10 Samuel Piette

He really struggles to do himself justice when employed with Wanyama, but the effort is beyond reproach.

6/10 Romell Quioto

He doesn’t get a ton of balloons, but he tries to be threatening with the ones he receives without being able to materialize.

6/10 James Pantemis

He gave an unfortunate return on the first goal, was caught on the wrong foot on the second, but also made some good saves.

6/10 Rudy camacho

Another who has not had his best night and is more unlucky with an own goal.

5,5/10 Zorhan Bassong

A difficult evening for him defensively, especially on the second goal of the Revs. He tries to recover in attack.
