The president of the MR Georges-Louis Bouchez refuses to review the favorable tax regime of professional football

According to the newspaper, Minister of Social Affairs Frank Vandenbroucke and Minister of Finance Vincent Van Peteghem are currently finalizing a reform of the system.

The federal coalition agreement provides that this legislature will see a reform of the fiscal and parafiscal advantages for athletes and professional clubs. It is in the world of high-level football, in particular, that the tax reductions and the ceiling of the ONSS have aroused indignation for several years. In this way, the clubs and their players benefit from 200 million euros, the largest football clubs benefiting from the largest discounts.

Social Affairs Minister Frank Vandenbroucke (Vooruit) and Finance Minister Vincent Van Peteghem (CD &; V) are currently finalizing their plans to put an end to these practices. According to De Tijd, the dossier is expected to be presented at the end of this month during budget discussions.

But Georges-Louis Bouchez, president of the MR, partner of the coalition, does not want to know anything about a reduction in the system, he has already told Tijd. “Only strong clubs have been able to maintain themselves thanks to outgoing transfers, many others are fighting for their survival,” said Bouchez. For him, starting to attack their resources again, just after the crisis linked to the pandemic, risks killing Belgian football.

According to De Tijd, the PS, too, would not be inclined to reform the system. President Paul Magnette is also the mayor of Charleroi, a city which has a first division football club, Sporting Charleroi. Georges-Louis Bouchez is president of the Francs Borains amateur football club.
