The Netherlands liquidated a decimated Uruguay in the Davis Cup

Uruguay lost to the Netherlands in their Davis Cup World Group I series which was played at the Carrasco Lawn Tennis.

After losing the two singles matches on Saturday, the team led by Enrique “Bebe” Pérez Cassarino played the match of doubles composed by Martín “Bebu” Cuevas and Ignacio Carou, Argentine by birth but of Uruguayan descent who at age 22 made his debut with the Uruguayan team.

Pablo Cuevas, absent with a knee injury in Saturday’s singles, did not play this Sunday either. But Uruguay was even more limited in its power because its doubles specialist, Ariel Behar was also out due to injury.

That is how Cuevas and Carou took to the track, who could do little before Wesley Koolhof and Matwe Middelkoop, two world specialists in doubles. The first of them is ranked 21st in the ATP doubles ranking and the second is 27th.

Given things like this, the game lasted just 55 minutes. The Dutch won 6-2, 6-1.

The meeting had a relaxed atmosphere without the peak of tension that was experienced on Saturday when Tallon Griekspoor beat Bebu Cuevas 6-4, 7-6 (6) and instead of celebrating he threw a ball to the bench where the Uruguayan team was .

That led Pérez Cassarino to make gestures at him reproving his bad attitude and then Cuevas ended up pushing his rival. Both parts had to be separated.

The series, already settled, continued and the experienced Robin Haase beat Carou comfortably 6-3, 6-2 to stamp a 4-0 on the scoreboard, in the absence of the dispute of the fifth point.

The Netherlands thus qualified to play the qualifying for the World Group while Uruguay is awaiting a draw that assigns a rival to be able to stay in this World Group I.
