His experience in the highest category barely lasted a year of fighting until the last game but with the pride of having a 100% Soria squad, “as far as possible we will try not to sign players who come from abroad,” says the president. Now the entity will be in category B one step away from the best, it tries to ascend again and with the same intention as always, to carry the name of Soria in a sport that is gradually gaining strength in the city, «we are happy with the base that we are forming and we believe that they can take over for the next few years, “he says with pride.
Last season Javier Barrios made his debut at just 15 years old with the first team showing a more than valid level to compete with the best. The great promise of the club confirmed that it lived up to the expectations created. Meanwhile Daniela Corchón took her first national under-15 master’s degree. Although he is still too young and with a lot to polish, he is aiming to make his senior debut this season.
They are the flyers who must take the baton in the coming years, they are already present at the Soria Badminton Club. They are wicked and hungry for success, and the entity knows that now is the time to take the leap.
The great hope. Javier Barrios had practically assured his first medal in a Spanish Championship in the sub-13 category when his tibia said enough. His first great moment was going to ruin but after a year of transition in which his results have been improving, in this preseason the injury “is completely forgotten”, he says emphatically.
This year is his time, the U-15 Spanish Championship comes to give him a second chance, “I see myself with options to aspire to everything”, and he hopes that sport will give back what it took away, “I have worked very hard and I will get there in a great moment to achieve it ».
He has been doing this training for a long time with the players of the first team, “I’m used to preparing with it.” Although the difficulties are evident on a physical level, Barrios always looks on the positive side, “the pace is greater and it helps me to be able to compete to the highest demands.” Known on the national circuit for his great technique, “especially in the net game and the grinding shot”, he continues to polish details to be an increasingly complete player, “I have a lot to improve on the right side.” His mentality is another of his strengths, “the games are getting longer and you always have to be focused.”
All these qualities have already been put into practice in the First Division, “I was able to play a couple of days with the first team and the experience was great.” This year he will repeat as a regular member, and that with 15 years.
The surprise. Like a well-hidden gem waiting to shine, Daniela Corchón appeared like a sudden storm on the national under-15 circuit. Last June he surprised his rivals by winning the Cerdanyola Master, “it has been a good year in which I have achieved my best results,” he acknowledges.
The young rider has exploded as a result of a unique physical condition for her young age, “in training I feel good and I work in the right way to continue progressing.” Daniela Corchón already does it with the players of the first team, “it is a completely different rhythm from that of rivals my age but I take it as a daily learning”.
Mentally she is a rock and she doesn’t mind suffering in those matches against older and more experienced opponents, “I think I work very well upside down, I always stay in the game and that makes it always competitive.”
That ambition is mixed with a humility that lets him know that his time will come at the right moment, “I still have a little while to make my debut with the first team, but I’m not in a hurry.” That is his vision but the club has already announced that this season he will have his chance.
