The final reaction gives a point to the Bidasoa

The Irundarra team has matched a match in which it has always been behind

The best thing about this Sunday’s game is that you don’t have to go back to O Gatañal until next season. The cursed field of Bidasoa Irun once again presented an adverse match that had a more or less happy ending. A point is not much against a team that usually fights for permanence but it is more than none. And, seeing the development of the meeting, it would have been normal to come back from Galicia empty.

The game started crooked, very crooked. What was seen on the court was not reflected on the scoreboard because Javi Díaz left in the first ten minutes. He stopped seven-meter throws to Kauldi Odriozola, Thomas Tesoriere and Iñaki Cavero and three more in plays, which implies an incredible 6 of 7, 85% correct.

The Galician team did not keep up with their veteran goalkeeper but the goals were rising to the scoreboard, which showed a surprising 6-1. It could even be 7-1 but José Manuel Sierra stopped the against Daniel Fernández.

When Díaz came down from his state of grace – he would still finish the first half at 46% – Bidasoa’s biggest problem was the connection of Cangas with his pivots. Half of the Galician goals in the first half came from that position.

Sierra (5 stops, 1 pen.), Cavero, Salinas (4, 1 pen.), Tesoriere, Da Silva, García (1), Fernández (3, 1 pen.) -Starting seven-, Ledo (3 stops, 1 pen.), Ugarte, Zabala (4), Furundarena (4), Kauldi (4), Nieto and Rodríguez (4).

  • Scoreboard every five minutes:
    3-1, 4-1, 8-3, 10-6, 12-9, 14-11 (rest); 15-14, 18-15, 22-17, 22-21, 23-21 and 24-24.

  • Referees:
Jordi Ausás and Miquel Florenza, excluded the locals Martín (twice), Aizen (twice) and Díaz and the bidasotarras Furundarena, Tesoriere, Zabala and García.

Despite everything, that maximum difference of five goals was not more and the Irundarras were still involved in the game, although in tow. Eneko Furundarena scored three goals from 10-6 to 12-9 and in the 25th minute Xoan Ledo came out to stop a penalty and the subsequent rebound. It was within a 0-3 run that narrowed the score to 12-11, although at halftime the margin was again three goals, 14-11.

In fits and starts

In the resumption, those of Cuétara had two balls to tie at fifteen but the opposite happened, a new escape for the local team, in this case with a 5-1 run to 20-15. The difference remained at 22-17 and then there was only a quarter of an hour left, so the comeback was becoming increasingly complicated.

At that moment, Bidasoa Irun had a stroke of luck, because Cangas made a bad change and suffered an exclusion when he was already with one less. In total, a minute and a half with two less players, a circumstance that the yellow team took advantage of to score two goals, both from Kauldi Odriozola. They were the first of the 0-4 quarter in just over three minutes that Adrián Fernández rounded off with two other goals and placed 22-21.

The Gipuzkoan team, by fits and starts, had managed to arrive alive at the end of the game, which was not little. Five minutes from the end and with 23-21, Díaz (49% yesterday) stopped a penalty against Adrián Fernández, the third ball that Bidasoa wasted to get to one. In the fourth, Furundarena tied and on the next play Sierra saved a penalty from Simes.

The first draw since 1-1 was signed by Víctor Rodríguez with a penetration (23-23) and the third equalized of the entire game led to the signing of Mikel Zabala from the end with eight seconds from the end. You still had to hold your breath and watch pivot Alberto Martín sting excessively on a ball that he had in a clear position.

Despite missing five penalties out of eight, Bidasoa Irun with a final quarter of 2-7 rescued a point on that track where they had lost in three of their previous four visits.

Only four teams have won their first two games

After the first two days of the Sacyr Asobal League, there are only four teams that add their matches by victories. Besides Barça, they are Incarlopsa Cuenca, Abanca Ademar León and Angel Ximénez Puente Genil. The last two will meet on the next matchday, in which Bidasoa Irun will host Barça, on Saturday at 3:00 pm (Gol TV).

In contrast, five teams have not yet scored any points. It is surprising that Logroño is in that group (they lost to Barça and the recently promoted Iberoquinoa Antequera) and Benidorm has a pending match. The list is completed by Helvetia Anaitasuna, Unicaja Sinfín and rookie Bathco Torrelavega.
