Belinda Bencic (WTA 12) had to work hard to get past the second round of the Chicago tournament. The St. Welshwoman defeated Australia’s Maddison Inglis (WTA 130) 5-7 6-1 6-0. Jil Teichmann followed suit later by winning her match in straight sets.

Belinda Bencic on diesel. Well started, then roughed up in the first round, the Olympic champion administered a real correction to her opponent. As if the St. Welshwoman had been annoyed to have lost the initial set when she was leading 4-2. It must be said that Bencic has something to be a bit angry with her service, she who lined up nine double faults on the first two sets.

Luckily, Maddison Inglis was unable to take advantage of these gifts. Yet the only game the Australian won in the second set was a 3-0 break for Bencic. But after this alert, the Olympic champion went into steamroller mode while still having to save here and there a few break points. But with nine games won in a row, she completed this part in the best possible way in 2:13.

In the round of 16, she will face the winner of the duel between Czech Tereza Martincova (WTA 53) and Slovenian Tamara Zidansek (WTA 33). She leads 2-0 against the Czech and has never challenged the Slovenian.
