The Austrian national baseball team celebrated a convincing 5-0 shutout win in the last game of the European championship in Piedmont Sweden and secured eleventh place. For Team Austria this was the second best result at a major international event.

After six games – three wins and three defeats – the result at the European Championship in Piedmont is clear: With rank eleven, the Austrians posted the second-best result at a major international event. Only at the last European Championship could a better result be achieved with tenth place.

In a direct duel for eleventh place, Team Austria prevailed 5-0 against Sweden. In the first two innings, Austria’s pitcher Christian Tomsich had a tough duel with his opponent. None of the teams was able to write to them at first. A triple worth seeing by Benni Salzmann enabled Dominik Talir to make the first run for Team Austria. Salzmann was able to book a run himself in the same section after a double from Sammy Hackl. In the fourth inning, Richard Alzinger provided the first highlight of the encounter and the 4-0 with a 2-RBI home run. While Tomsich was still harmed, Felix Zimmerle followed up with another home run in the fifth section. Tobias Kiefer replaced the perfect Tomsich at Mound after seven innings and made the shutout success perfect in the remaining two innings.
