Surrendered to the best president: the legacy of Maximino Martínez according to the leaders

Ángel María Villar and Maxi on a visit from the former president of the Spanish Federation.

Rubiales He not only dedicated high praise to Maximino Martínez, whom he considers a personal “reference” and who has left “a very high level” in his time in the Asturian. The president of the Spanish Federation announced through a statement on the website addressing the Asturian that “I want you to continue by my side as vice president and accompany me on this path that we began in 2018. You are an example.” And he announced that he will soon give him the gold and diamond badge that he awarded him a few months ago.

Manuel Vega-Arango, his predecessor in the Asturian Federation, considers that he was completely right when he offered Maxi Martínez a position on his board in 1988: “I had been told very well about him, about his passion for the quarry. He is a very hard-working person, he lived for the Federation and for football ”, stressed the president of Sporting, who regrets the circumstances in which the end of the mandate has taken place:“ So many years in office wear down and it is a shame the problem of health that has suffered. You have to show appreciation for everything he has done ”.

Luis Gallego has coincided with Maxi Martínez during his long period in the Presidency of the Marino: “I already miss Maxi from day one. It’s pure energy and it filled everything. It will be difficult to replace a person like him. With the Marino he always behaved very well. He came to the field and took out his ticket, bought the raffle … And so with everyone because he lived by and for Asturian football. A lot of money came in that he got from the Spanish Federation ”.

The former president of Avilés, José María Tejero, also puts Martínez through the roof: “Maxi went through difficult times and managed to keep Asturian football alive. We were always well represented in Madrid thanks to their determination, tenacity and great effort. It’s a shame that I have to leave because I could continue fighting. Tejero highlights the investment in soccer fields during Martínez’s term and the inauguration of the new federal headquarters in Roces, “which was his great illusion. It’s a shame that I can’t enjoy it more ”.

The president of Covadonga, Curro Cabal, qualifies as “excellent” the balance of Maximino Martínez: “He managed to make Asturias, without being a community with great possibilities, to be one of the federations that have the most weight in Madrid. It is difficult for him to match what he did for Asturian football. He always worked for the good of the clubs and even led a strike to defend his rights ”.

The president of Tuilla, José López Arbesú, emphasizes the human face of Maximino Martínez, with whom he has a close relationship: “Maxi is very flat and very straight. Sometimes it crashed because he is very direct ”. At the hour of goodbye he thanks him, “but not only for Tuilla, but for Asturian football in general. He helped as much as he could ”. López Arbesú highlights the great investment in artificial grass pitches, the goal achieved by the federal headquarters in Roces and “its proximity to the clubs. It is a shame that he cannot serve another four-year term ”.

Lobo takes the step and Tejero thinks about it

José Ramón Cuetos, Lobo, current president of the National Coaches Committee, officially announced yesterday his intention to appear in the elections of the Asturian Football Federation. In a public note, Lobo emphasizes that “if Asturian football chooses me, it will do so to succeed the most important president in the history of Asturias.”

Lobo praised Maximino Martínez: “What I have learned all these years in different responsibilities in the RFFPA, thanks to Maxi’s trust, allows me to take this step to lead Asturian football and thus follow the line of work carried out by Maxi and consolidate the position of Asturias within the new strategies that the RFEF is implementing ”.

Although Lobo is the only candidate for the presidency who has spoken officially, the former president of Avilés, José María Tejero, assured that he is part of a group that raises an alternative “because it would be good if there were elections.”
