St. Vither Opposition wants more transparency in infrastructure planning

Renewing broken streets, laying sewers – the St. Vither opposition does not question the necessity of such projects. However, according to Herbert Hannen (FLS – Free List Solheid), she asked for a general overview with a list of priorities at the beginning of the legislative period. “According to which criteria are projects approached and from whom does the impetus come from?”

Building inspector René Hoffmann and Mayor Herbert Grommes (NBA – New Citizens’ Alliance) argued that the need or the opportunity sometimes arises: The condition in the local and powder road area has deteriorated badly in the last two years: composite stones loosen, the gully is broken, the road surface on the sloping local road is dangerously slippery in winter.

“How would we like it?”

In another project in the lower Rodter Strasse in St. Vith, the sewage intercommunal AIDE has registered a need and the community joins it.

Another project concerns the center of the village of Crombach (Schmitzgasse, Pullenzgasse, Middelweg), another one concerns the sewer and the road renovation “Zum Ortwald” in Recht.

With a view to the Orts- und Pulverstraße, Klaus Jousten (List Freches) complained that the planning was left entirely to the project author. “What do we want anyway? How would we like it? ”He asked for certain specifications and also brought in his own considerations, which René Hoffmann willingly noted. The majority is always open to ideas.

Mayor Grommes explained that a first draft is always required, which is then discussed with the residents and modified if necessary.

Damaged parking lot at the triangle

The heavily damaged carriageway on the parking lot at the triangle is also to be renewed. While the parking areas are still in order, something needs to be done on the busy areas. Jennifer Otten (FLS) knew from a technical point of view that this was due to the poor, water-impermeable substructure. This is where we have to start first.

While their group recommended that the honeycomb mats be reused at this point for reasons of cost, the majority want a more stable solution with composite stones for the driveway. The Free List Solheid was satisfied with the admission that the mats would be used elsewhere in due course.

Hoffmann and Grommes emphasized that empty conduits will also be laid during the work so that parking areas can later be retrofitted with charging stations for electric cars – without having to tear up the floor again. In terms of e-mobility, even clearer specifications can be expected in the future from the Walloon Region, for example.

An appearance like … 007

The Freches parliamentary group (without their group chairmen) made a special appearance at the beginning of the meeting: The three remaining parliamentary group members appeared at the last minute – just at that moment, the signature tune of James Bond rang out on Leo Kreins’ mobile phone, who was due to the long awaited The premiere of the new film is currently on everyone’s lips.
