BERKE MANKIR – INTERVIEW
Ceyhun Cabadak, the head coach of Manisa Metropolitan Belediyespor, one of the Turkish Basketball League teams, who won the championship rope in the Federation Cup held in Ankara and won the admiration of everyone, told Milliyet Ege in our interview about the latest situation of the new pre-season team. . Cabadak said, “I am proud of my players. At the end of the tournament, where they fought very well, we made Manisa a success. Our current goal is to represent the city in the Super League arena. We sincerely believe that we can achieve this,” he said.
-We would like to hear from you about Manisa BŞB’s journey to victory in the Federation Cup. What would you say?
In basketball, the Men’s Federation Cup is an organization held at the beginning of each season. An arena where 16 teams participate and official competitions are played. After the preparation period, the teams play their first official matches in this cup. Just like our competitors, we attached importance to the cup. Because we tested ourselves before the new basketball season started, we saw the final version of our team. It was a good rehearsal for us. We have continuously improved ourselves by working well in our training in our summer camps. Not only in the final match, but also in other matches, my team gave a great performance. In the end, we became champions. I think we felt how much we wanted the trophy from the first to the last whistle. Congratulations to my team and proud of them. Completing the preparation process with a trophy gave us self-confidence. Now we have to leave this tournament behind and head towards the league. We are taking our steps firmly with our team, the foundations of which we laid 5 years ago. Every year, we carried our target to a higher point and reached this point. Our current goal is to represent Manisa in the Super League.
How do you feel when you look at it from the eyes of a coach?
When we got our trophy, I had very good feelings, I was very happy. I am happy that we are getting the fruits of our labor with our players. We fought in a way that befits our club, our city and our coat of arms. We start real life now. We are concentrating on the league with everything. As I mentioned before, our goal is definitely to advance to the Super League. The only thing that upset me was that Mustafa Baki suffered an unfortunate injury during the struggle. Mustafa will not be with us for 6-8 weeks. An important loss for us. But his teammates will not make him feel his absence.
-Your scoring averages are very reassuring both in defense and offense. What do you attribute this to?
We aimed to score points as high as possible to the opponent’s basket. We did not give our opponents a chance to shoot easily with our pressed defense. As the edge management, the directives we gave to my players were implemented perfectly. Our loyalty to the game has led us to success. Everyone has fully fulfilled their responsibilities. We reflected this on the field.
-Each match starred a different name. When we look at the big picture, can we say that it is an indicator of the phenomenon of being a team?
We can say comfortably. Playing high-importance matches in a row is not easy. We shared the times among ourselves so that we wouldn’t wear out. We keep the rotation wide. This gave us an advantage when our player group was also suitable for the revision. Compared to other teams competing in the tournament, we were more alive until the last ball.
-So, how did you determine your player portfolio while making the transfers?
We are entering our fourth season in this league. So we know the league. In the light of our experience, we have athletes with good character. During the transfer period, we brought many of the transfers we wanted to our team. Both talent and character matter. Team friendship is also one of the criteria we attach importance to. So talent alone means nothing to us.
-What do you think about the approach of the city of Manisa to basketball?
Very good. It is a convenient city for the development of Turkish basketball. We have been away from our fans for a while due to the coronavirus. We will play with 50 percent audience for the first time after the pandemic. We formed a team that will add excitement to our city. I am sure many will follow us.
