When there was one placement that seemed cemented after the group draw in the Champions League, it was this: Group D, fourth place, Sheriff Tiraspol.
The fact that the club with the strange name made it into the group stage at all motivated experts and journalists across Europe to sing the praises of one of the biggest surprises in international football.
Two game days later, the footballers from the Republic of Transnistria actually have a clear gap on the competition: three points on Real Madrid, five points on Inter Milan and five points on Shakhtar Donetsk. However, the lead, not the lag.
