Roglic exhibits at the Covadonga Lakes and regains the lead

Primoz Roglic (Jumbo Visma) was the winner of the 17th stage of La Vuelta a España after making an exhibition on the climb to the lakes of Covadonga and reaching the finish line alone. In this way, the Slovene regained the leader’s jersey against an Odd Christian Eiking (Wanty) who had already fallen off the favorites on the second climb to the Llomena pass, when Egan Bernal (Ineos) attacked 60 miles and only Roglic followed him.

With nothing to lose, Bernal launched an attack on the second climb to the Llomena pass that left the group well broken and only Roglic followed. The Colombian was very ambitious, but Bernal’s adventure ended when Roglic made the final attack 7 and a half kilometers from the finish. Then Ineos lowered his arms and was caught by the pursuing group. Roglic crossed the finish line first, while the next group, with his teammate Sepp Kuss, Miguel Ángel López (Movistar), Adam Yates (Ineos), Jack Haig (Barhain), Enric Mas (Movistar) and Bernal went reach 1 minute and 35 seconds from Slovenian.

The leader of Jumbo Visma is once again wearing the red jersey and is on his way to his third victory in the general of the Spanish round and today he will face a new exam in another mountain stage ending in El Gamoniteiro. The Slovenian has 2 minutes and 22 seconds with respect to Mas and 3 minutes and 11 seconds with respect to López, new members of the podium.
