Roger Federer expects new Grand Slam records in tennis after the Big Three era

The Swiss went on to say: “We used to have three grass events, but the gaps were smaller. There were hard court players and clay court players. There weren’t that many players who were good on all surfaces.”

As one of the few exceptions, Federer named the eleven-time Grand Slam champion Björn Borg. But times were different back then.

“Players didn’t chase one Grand Slam title after another or set records like they do today,” said the 40-year-old, who is currently on pause after knee surgery.

For young players, however, it is now normal that they train on all surfaces and want to celebrate successes there.

“So there will probably be a new, incredible player who will break our record of 20 Grand Slam titles,” Federer is certain: “But not overnight.”
