Pumpido will replace Belloso in Conmebol

Nery Alberto Pumpido is the new deputy general secretary for football of the Conmebol, replacing Gonzalo belloso, who resigned this week. The former goalkeeper of the Argentina Selection it was confirmed by the entity in its official accounts, in a photograph with the president, Alejandro Domínguez, who appointed him to the position.

Precisely, Pumpido was champion of the Copa Libertadores de América in 2002 with Olimpia de Paraguay, a club in which Domínguez played before joining Conmebol. In addition, he is a regular participant in conferences, raffles and was even one of the speakers, in 2017, at a symposium for the development of football. Also, in 2019 he went to Malaysia on behalf of the entity for a congress of technical directors.

Pumpido was part of various technical commissions of Conmebol and worked alongside other coaches, such as Pacho Maturana.

After the departure of Belloso, the possibility that Diego Lugano, a leader of San Pablo and a strong opponent of the VAR, would replace the Argentine had been disclosed, but finally they opted for Pumpido.

Nery also has experience as a manager, since he held the position in Unión during 2010.
