Paralympic competitions and Mennea Day

Two days on the track, over the weekend, in Cassola (Vicenza), the home town of the blue long jump athlete Laura Layers, for two sporting events of national caliber, both of which have reached their third edition: on Saturday the Serenissima Para Atletics Meeting takes place which sees not only competitions for Paralympic athletes, but also the holding of competitions for the beginner categories, in particular the relay races. Sunday, on the other hand, is the turn of Mennea Day to celebrate and emulate the record of the great Barletta sprinter: in fact, only 200 meters are competed: athletes of all ages and in all categories are involved.

THE SERENISSIMA PARA ATLETICS MEETING
On the first day, Saturday 11 September, the local Gs Marconi and the Veneto Special Sport of Noale organize the 3rd Serenissima Para Athletics Meeting, an event “without barriers” in which the Paralympic competitions Fispes, Fisdir and Fidal youth (categories boys and cadets) will alternate ). Expected on the track, among others, Paralympic athletes like Fispes Carlotta Bertoli, world gold under 20 in speed, Samuele Gobbi, blue at the Beijing Games, Annalisa Pink, at the top of the world in archery but passionate about athletics and who makes her debut in Cassola as a thrower, and Margherita Paciolla, sprinter and long-distance runner, European gold and world silver. Switzerland is present for Fisdir Chiara Women, holder of the European junior record C21 in the 100.

THE MENNEA DAY IN CASSOLA
The next day, Sunday 12 September, the Mennea Day returns to Cassola for the third consecutive year, an event that commemorates the great sprinter from Barletta, who 42 years ago, in Mexico City, was the author of the world record of 200 (19 “72). At the Mennea Day in Cassola there will also be two protagonists of the blue speed: Paolo Camossi, coach of Marcell Jacobs, Olympic gold medalist in the 100 meters and 4×100 relay in Tokyo, e Manuela Levorato, queen of the sprint with the Italian record on 100 meters (11 ”14) set just twenty years ago in Lausanne. With them, Laura Layers, the home blue, in turn trained by Camossi and the many athletes, of all ages, registered and not, who – from 16 and 15 – will take to the track to try their hand at the distance preferred by the great Pietro.
