Olympic kayaking finalist Stone also overcomes the semi-final barrier at the World Championships / Article

Skater Roberts Akmens was the first to finish in the preliminaries of the World Championships in Copenhagen on Friday and later provided an opportunity to fight for a place on the podium in the finals, according to the organizers.

In the semifinals of the stone, the finish reached the second after 35.70 seconds, with the first place winner Hungarian Kološ Cismadija 0.21 seconds behind. The three fastest kayakers of the trip reached the main final scheduled for Sunday.

In the pre-race, Akmens was the fastest, finishing in 36.95 seconds and overtaking the closest competitor, Belarusian Aliakseya Misuchenko, by 0.36 seconds. Participation in the semi-finals was guaranteed by six of the seven participants of the pre-race.

In the semi-final distance of 500 meters for women, the skater Madara Aldiņa will start. In the semi-final 200 meters she finished eighth and did not reach the final.

Latvia is also represented in the World Championship in Denmark by the crew of two kayakers Aldis Vilde / Aleksejs Rumjancevs, who ensured their participation in the semi-finals in the 500-meter distance.

Vilde / Rumyantsev finished fifth in the eight-boat race on Friday in the pre-race. Aldiņa reached the finish of his race in the 500 meters in the race in the seventh of eight kayakers and the last one was in the semi-finals.

In August, Akmens made his debut at the Olympic Games and reached the final in Tokyo, finishing in 8th place.
