ÖJV President Poiger faces re-election

Martin Poiger is standing for re-election as president on October 9th in Eugendorf at the general assembly of the Austrian Judo Association (ÖJV). The 44-year-old from Burgenland wants to bring a breath of fresh air to the team with new names in addition to his previous board team.

The four-time Olympic participant and two-time ex-European champion Sabrina Filzmoser is planned as Vice President. The previous Technical Director Albert Gmeiner is running as one of five Vice Presidents. New on the list of names is, among others, Vice European Champion Magdalena Krssakova, who, as ÖOC and ÖJV athlete spokeswoman, is to have a right to vote on the board with immediate effect.

Poiger was elected ÖJV President after the resignation of Hans-Paul Kutschera at the end of October 2019. During his tenure, among other things, the signing of Olympic champion Yvonne Bönisch as head coach and the complete two million repayment of the IJF World Championship license fee for the withdrawn home World Championship were successful.

“I think I can say that we have given the Austrian Judo Association a very contemporary, professional look over the past few months. The most recent successes at European Championships, World Championships and Olympics speak for themselves. We want to continue on this path until the summer games in Paris, ”emphasized Poiger in a broadcast on Friday. His second (honorary) term would run until autumn 2024. In his job he is the director of the Vienna office of the European Judo Association. No opposing candidacy is currently expected.
