No more! Alfredo Arias stopped being the coach of Deportivo Cali

The coach Alfredo Arias ceased to be the coach of Deportivo Cali, according to what the Verdiblanca institution reported on Monday in an official statement.

“An agreement was reached for the termination of coach Alfredo Arias and his physical trainer Ignacio Berriel,” the official Cali appointment indicated.

Professors Ítalo Cervino, as technical director and Mauricio Guzmán, as physical trainer, will lead the Cali team.

The departure of Alfredo Arias from the Deportivo Cali bench was sentenced from matchday 5, when there was a 2-2 draw in Palmaseca against Millonarios, a result that began to mark the future of the Uruguayan strategist on the sugar bench.

That night of Saturday August 14, the Uruguayan coach casually said goodbye to the press, stating that he was not where they did not want him, thus understanding that his situation had become practically untenable after that result.

However, hours later the situation took a 180 degree turn, after a meeting that Arias had with the players, who expressed their full support in a private conversation accepted by the members of the Executive Committee of the sugar group.

Until then, some of the managers were in favor of the Uruguayan coach taking a step to the side, while others preferred to give him one last chance.

Calm the waters, Arias resumed work with his men at the sports headquarters in Pance, considering that the results would keep him in office, something that happened in the last games.

But things did not turn out for him in Pasto and the coach has left his position, when only eight dates of the Colombian League have passed, leaving a footballing image very distant from what he showed in his first campaigns with Deportivo Cali.

Although the 62-year-old coach – who was champion with Montevideo Wanderers in Uruguay (2014) and Emelec in Ecuador (2017) – did not win any title with the sugar club, many consider that he practiced the best football in the last two tournaments prior to the present. , but his team missed the goal.

It was precisely this lack of a goal that the managers tried to solve this season, with the repatriation of Hárold Preciado and the hiring of Teófilo Gutiérrez, but the Azucareros gave up in that regard and Arias will have to leave.

Cali is in the lowest positions in the standings with just 9 points in 8 games, patenting one of the worst starts in the League in recent years and with an Executive Committee that will end its term in December and does not want to leave with its hands empty.
