LANDOVER, Md. – Dustin Hopkins pulled off his second field goal for the win and the Washington Soccer Team defeated the New York Giants 30-29 on Thursday night.

Hopkins missed his first attempt to finish it off, but an offside penalty awarded to Dexter Lawrence gave him a chance to try his luck again. This time, Hopkins sent the ball between the posts for 43 yards.

The Washington Football Team (1-1) scored their first victory of the season and quarterback Taylor Heinicke was able to redeem himself.

The 28-year-old Heinicke had 336 aerial yards and threw two touchdown passes. He was, however, the victim of an interception that could have cost his team the victory, as Graham Gano gave the Giants a 29-27 lead with two minutes remaining.

Quarterback Daniel Jones threw a touchdown pass and for air gains of 249 yards for the Giants (0-2). He also had 95 rushing yards and a touchdown.

For the majority of the confrontation, it was Washington’s defense that was unable to close the door. The Giants had points in the first four possessions of the second half, but after taking a 26-20 lead, Heinicke only needed 17 seconds to put his squad back in the lead.

JD McKissic snuck in for a 56-yard catch and Ricky Seals-Jones had a nice catch in the end zone for a 19-yard major.

The Giants had to clear after that streak, but as Washington looked to run out of seconds, James Bradberry intercepted a pass from Heinicke.

The Giants were forced to attempt a field goal which gave Heinicke another shot.
