DeMarcus Lawrence fractured foot

The Cowboys they will have to face their game next Sunday and a good rest of the season without one of their pillars on defense. Via Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, it was reported that the DE DeMarcus Lawrence suffered a broken foot during practice this Wednesday, for which he will be out indefinitely.

The injury occurred in a routine passing run, according to Jane Slater of NFL Network, who reported that “nothing remarkable happened” when Lawrence was injured. However, subsequent examinations detailed that he suffered a fifth metatarsal fracture, therefore, he will need surgery and if all goes well, Rapoport added that Lawrence should be available again by November.

While this injury is a tremendous loss to the defense of Mike McCarthyIt is not the only concern they have at the moment; the DE Randy Gregory is currently in the COVID-19 Reserve, which means Dallas could be without its top two edge rushers for the Week 2 game against a Chargers led by Justin Herbert.

Lawrence, a Boise State graduate, came to the Cowboys as a second-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, and in eight seasons with the team, he has 300 tackles, 45.5 sacks, 15 forced fumbles and 8 recovered. Ultimately, Dallas will have to turn to backup Tarell Basham, a 2017 Colts third-round pick, to replace Lawrence while he is absent.

Saquon Barkley, questionable for TNF; Evan Engram, out

Week 2 of the 2021 NFL Season will begin today, Thursday at 7:20 p.m. Central Mexico with the Giants visiting the WFT in a Thursday Night Football duel, however, New York will find itself with a reduced roster.

The tea Evan Engram he was ruled out entirely for tonight’s game. The Giants noted that Engram continues to make progress in recovering from his calf injury, but missed Week 1, and now will miss Week 2. Therefore, Kyle Rudolph he will remain New York’s starting tight end as long as Engram remains out.

But concerns for those led by Joe Judge they don’t end there: the RB Saquon Barkley was listed as questionable as he continued to recover from the ACL injury he sustained in 2020. However, Barkley did see action on the field last Sunday, and it seems likely that he will also play this Thursday.

Finally, it’s worth noting that the Giants also ruled out linebacker Cam Brown (hamstring) and guard Shane Lemieux (knee) for tonight’s game. Can New York overcome these losses?

Chandler Jones talks about his contract with Arizona

The Cardinals earned their first win of 2021 last Sunday in part thanks to the tremendous performance of their LB Chandler Jones, who was named the NFC defensive player of the week after hitting 5 sacks in Week 1. However, even though he is one of the best players currently on Arizona’s roster, his future is not necessarily tied to this team.

Yesterday, at a press conference, Jones, who did not attend any work for the Cardinals during the offseason, confirmed that he came to request a trade when he saw that a contract extension seemed unlikely. However, that dissatisfaction did not affect him at the start of the season, and he told reporters that all his attention for now is focused on football and he has allowed the negotiations on a new agreement to continue without his direct participation:

“I think I play better when I don’t go in thinking about the contract … I’m just playing football, honestly,” Jones said, via the team’s website. “I’ll let my agent handle all of that. It’s the last year of my contract and I’ll let that take care of itself. “

Syracuse alumnus Jones will earn $ 15.5 million in base salary this season in his final year of contract with the team. In six seasons with the Cardinals, he has 211 tackles, 10 forced fumbles, and 66 sacks. In addition, he led the NFL in quarterback sacks in 2017 with 17 total. Therefore, it is easy to deduce that, if Arizona does not bring him back, some other team will sign him without any problem.

Calvin Johnson: “the Lions must pay me 1.6 million dollars”

The Lions and the former WR Calvin Johnson, who recently was inducted into the Hall of Fame in the NFL, they still don’t have a good relationship. The break is due to the fact that, when Johnson retired prior to the start of the 2016 NFL Season, with four years remaining on his contract, Detroit forced him to return $ 1.6 million of his initial signing bonus.

The decision clearly didn’t make Johnson happy, but the Lions tried to fix it with a somewhat peculiar offer; according to Dave Birkett of Detroit Free Press, the team sent Johnson a proposal to return the 1.6 million dollars by paying him $ 500,000 a year for three years in exchange for Johnson doing 28 hours of work annually for the team, plus a one-time donation of $ 100,000 to a foundation belonging to Johnson, however, the WR did not accept, and the situation is more alive than ever.

On Wednesday, through reporter Graham Bensinger, Johnson expressed his current concerns on the matter: “I’m not saying they have to give me back the 1.6 [millones] in advance, but they need to find a way to do it, and not make me work for it, because I already did the work. “

Regarding Detroit’s offer, he commented: “That’s a joke. I put it like this. Imagine that you have a friend, or not necessarily a friend, just someone. They gave you something and then they took it from you. And then will they keep hanging out? They’ll be fine? And imagine that you also did a lot of work (…). You can’t get me back unless you put that money back in my pocket. I will not work for it.

Finally, she was also asked if this financial problem caused her not to mention the Lions at all during her Hall of Fame induction speech: “Mom always told me if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything. not at all, ”concluded Johnson, who appears to be in a fierce dispute to recover the money he believes Detroit owes him.

Bengals place Ricardo Allen on Injured Reserve

In more NFL news, this Wednesday, via a press conference, the Cincinnati HC, Zac Taylor, told reporters that safety Ricardo Allen was placed in the Injury Reserve due to a broken hand, for which the Bengals they will have to do without one of their defensive pillars for at least three weeks.

This is a serious blow to the defense as, while Allen is not a starter, he is the No. 1 backup option behind Jessie Bates and Vonn Bell. Allen came to Cincinnati only during this offseason after signing a 1-year contract, and last Sunday he made his debut by being on the field for 25% of the Bengals’ defensive plays and in 56% of special teams plays. , registering 5 total tackles.

This 2021 will be the eighth season as a professional for the Purdue graduate, having played the other seven for the Falcons, where he recorded, between 2014 and 2020, 345 total tackles, 28 passes defended and 11 INT. Additionally, in a corresponding move, the Bengals promoted WR Trenton Irwin to the roster of 53 to fill the available spot.
