Barty not in Indian Wells
World number one Ashleigh Barty has canceled her participation in the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells, which begins in the middle of next week. The organizers announced this on Monday on their Twitter account. They did not give a reason for the Australian’s withdrawal. Most recently, the Wimbledon winner at the US Open was surprisingly eliminated in the 3rd round against Shelby Rogers. She then stated that during the game she “didn’t have enough physical and mental strength in the tank”.
Next unsuccessful attempt by Clijsters
Kim Clijsters had to admit defeat on another return to the tour. The Belgian lost to Taiwanese Hsieh Su-Wei in the first round of the tournament in Chicago 3: 6, 7: 5, 3: 6. The now 38-year-old took part in an important tournament for the first time in a year and after losing her start at the US Open. In New York, the former world number one and four-time Grand Slam winner had her last victory in an individual 9 years ago.
