More media competence – workshops, talks and exclusive glimpses behind the scenes of the WDR at the ARD youth media day

Cologne (ots) –

With nine exciting offers, WDR is participating in the ARD Youth Media Day this year. Because of the pandemic, this is mainly taking place digitally. On Thursday, November 18, 2021, the WDR invites students from the 8th grade to exchange ideas with moderators, editors and hosts. Or take a look behind the scenes from the classroom during a “digital live & talk tour through the WDR”.

The “Weltspiegel” editorial team gives a comprehensive insight into their daily work: How does WDR shoot a video in a crisis area and what exactly do correspondents do? Grimme Prize winner Isabel Schayani, one of the four moderators of the ARD Weltspiegel, answers these and other questions in the livestream of the youtube channel of the ARD Youth Media Day. “Above all, I am looking forward to questions from young people and maybe even to questions about my work that I cannot answer. Because these are mostly those that remain in your mind afterwards and that you then think about during your work.” says Isabel Schayani.

News from all over the world clearly explained in 60 seconds? It’s available on the TikTok channel “nicetoknow”. Young people can talk to editor Verena Lammert and host Tim Barnelel about how this works. At the same time, music fans can compete in the music battle with the WDR Funkhausorchester: Who can recognize more quickly which film music it is when it is played backwards? Music lessons with a difference.

The WDR web workshops at the ARD Youth Media Day provide exciting insights: When presenter Clara Milnikel tells the Quarks science department on the TikTok channel how dark circles arise, there is a lot of research behind it. In a workshop she tells more about her job as a video creator.

There is also a look behind the scenes in the Instagram format “Shine & Nature” and a mini internship in the funk format “NBA Overtime”: sometimes on the topic of sustainable beauty topics, sometimes on the topic of basketball.

Should the Corona situation allow it in November, there will also be face-to-face workshops in “WDR STUDIO ZWEI – Die Medienwerkstatt”: In the radio and television studio, the classes can produce their own program under the guidance of a team, moderate it and operate the studio technology. Svenja Kellershohn (host at funk reporter and reporter for ARD-Sportschau) and Daniel Danger (presenter and reporter at 1LIVE) are live as guests and answer questions from young people.

These and other workshops, talks and glimpses behind the scenes on November 18 will focus on the topics of media literacy and journalistic craft. Interested teachers can register with their classes from today (September 20, 2021). More information on registration and the program is available at schlauer.wdr.de and ard.de/jugendmedientag.
