Marc Gasol will be transferred from Lakers to Grizzlies to go to Spain

Veteran Marc Gasol will be transferred by Los Angeles Lakers to the Memphis Grizzlies, his former team, with the expectation that he will leave the NBA and return to Spain, ESPN reported this Friday.

“The Lakers have agreed to trade Marc Gasol, a 2024 second-round pick and cash to the Grizzlies for the draft rights to Wang Zhelin,” detailed ESPN reporter Adrian Wojnarowski.

Gasol, three-time All-Star, and the Grizzlies, the team where he played 11 seasons, will now work on an agreement for the release of Gasol allowing him to “stay in Spain with his family,” Wojnarowski added.

Gasol, 36, played a season in the Los Angeles Lakers uniform in which they were eliminated in the first round of playoffs against the Phoenix Suns.

In that season, Pau Gasol’s younger brother averaged 5.0 points and 4.1 rebounds in 19.1 minutes per game.

In his 14 seasons in the NBA, Marc Gasol was the winner of the Best Defensive Player award in 2013. and won a ring with the Toronto Raptors in 2019.

The pivot also has an exceptional career with the Spanish team, which ended in the last Tokyo 2020 Games after winning two silver, an Olympic bronze and a 2006 world title.
