Madrid and tennis extend their idyll until 2030

The tournament will continue in the capital of Spain throughout the decade and a new court will be built in the Caja Mágica facilities, which will house about 10,000 people.

The Madrid tennis tournament will not move from the Caja Mágica. At least until 2030. This was confirmed by its director, Feliciano López, in a ceremony held this Friday at the Manolo Santana track.

«It is a very special day for us. They are almost 20 years of relationship with the city. The tournament has gone through different moments, growing a lot. With this new agreement we are going to reach 2030, something spectacular. All Madrilenians wait for the month of May to come to tennis, it is something that we have achieved during all this time. Fortunately, we have many years ahead of us, ”said Feliciano, who was also accompanied by Gerard Tsobanian, owner of the tournament, and the honorary president, Manolo Santana.

With the renewal of the agreement between the city council and the tournament, the construction of a new track in the Caja Mágica facilities has also been closed that will house about 10,000 people, which will place it as the second most important of the contest, behind of the 12,500 of the Manolo Santana and ahead of the 3,500 of the Arantxa Sánchez Vicario.

With an economic impact of around 107 million euros, the Madrid tournament, which includes the Men’s 1,000 Masters and the Women’s 1,000 WTA, will be held from May 1 to 8, 2022.

“This tournament started as a men’s event with the intention of putting Madrid on the map, but now it has grown into an incredible combination tournament. Today we can say that after the greats we are the fifth or sixth tournament in the world, “said Tsobanian.
