JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Maverick Vinales admitted that he was frustrated not being able to be competitive with the Yamaha YZR-M1 until he finally decided to part early.
The incident caught the attention of former Yamaha rider, Jorge Lorenzo.
Apart from Valentino Rossi, only Lorenzo has managed to become a world champion in the MotoGP era with Yamaha. Both of these riders were able to appear very competitive with the Yamaha M1.

Apart from Rossi and Lorenzo, not many other Yamaha riders can get along with the character of the M1. Many riders failed to compete with Yamaha.
Except for Fabio Quartararo, who since the 2019 season has been able to steal the show in his first season. In fact, now the French rider is leading the standings.

“As happened to me, Yamaha adapted very well to Quartararo’s style of racing,” said Lorenzo, quoted from Tuttomotoriweb.it, Tuesday (28/9/2021).

Lorenzo added, a good rider like Vinales, maybe his racing style doesn’t suit Yamaha. Thus, it was difficult to match Quartararo’s level.

Lorenzo said, no one expected Quartararo to be so competitive from the start with the Petronas Yamaha Sepang Racing Team (SRT) in 2019. Many were surprised, because Quartararo had been in Moto3 and Moto2 for four years without good results.

Currently Quartararo is the favorite rider to win the 2021 world title. But Lorenzo remembers not to underestimate Marc Marquez who after the summer vacation, can return in top shape.
“After Marquez was out for a year and after a rather strange 2020 season, he has matured psychologically, he is stronger than 2019 and last year, becoming the undisputed leader of the championship,” he said.
