Ligue 1: ASSE – Bordeaux, the figures of a shock of tauliers in great difficulty

Emblematic teams of the French Championship, Saint-Etienne (3 points, two losses, three draws) and Bordeaux (2 points, three losses, two draws) are struggling this season, and occupy the last two places in the standings after five days.

Without any victory to their credit or confidence gained since the start of the season, the two teams face each other this evening at 9 p.m. at Geoffroy Guichard. An already decisive match, while Bordeaux, which changed owners and chairman in July, made the worst start to the season in its history with Swiss Vladimir Petkovic on the bench. Back to the figures of this meeting.

The 2500th for the Greens

Founded in 1919, ASSE is playing its 2,500th meeting in the elite this Saturday! Only the clubs of Marseille (2,570 matches) and Bordeaux (2,511 matches) did better in this first division of the French Championship.

Saint-Etienne and Bordeaux face each other for the 119th time in history in Ligue 1, with a very balanced record: 43 wins on each side, and 32 draws. The trend is however to the advantage of the Greens, who won in the two Ligue 1 clashes last season. On April 11, ASSE had almost assured its maintenance by sweeping the Girondins 4 goals to 1.

Already 21 goals conceded this season

Barely offensively with only five goals scored in five games for each of the two teams, it is especially defensively that the record is worrying. ASSE have already conceded nine goals since the first day, including three against Marseille at the end of August. Even more catastrophic for Bordeaux, with 12 goals conceded, and in particular a severe 4-0 against Nice on the fourth day.

10 titles for ASSE, 6 for Girondins

Historic clubs in the championship, Saint-Etienne and Bordeaux respectively have ten (absolute record in Ligue 1, one more than PSG) and six French championship titles. The latest is to be credited to the Girondins, during the 2008-2009 financial year, then trained by Laurent Blanc. A season which had notably revealed Yoann Gourcuff, author of fifteen goals, in all competitions. On the other hand, it is necessary to go back to 1981 to regain the last title of the Greens, Michel Platini had scored 20 goals in the league.

Eight years since their last trophy

In addition to sharing the bottom of the standings at the start of the season, the Greens and the Girondins have another point in common: that of having won their last trophy in 2013. Led by Brandao, already double winner of the competition with the Olympique from Marseille, ASSE defeated Stade Rennais in the final of the Coupe de la Ligue at the end of April to put an end to 32 years of famine. A month later, the Bordelais won the Coupe de France, the fourth in the club’s history, by winning 3 goals to 2 against Evian Thonon Gaillard of Pascal Dupraz.
