Klopp can’t confirm the fate of the Brazilian trio

Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has not been able to confirm whether Alisson Becker, Roberto Firmino, and Fabinho can feature against Leeds United. All three were suspended by the Brazilian national team.

Liverpool refused to release Alisson Becker, Roberto Firmino and Fabinho to the Brazil national team at the international break last week. This can not be separated because Brazil is a country on the British government’s red list for COVID-19.

A similar attitude was also taken by most of the other Premier League clubs by not releasing players to the national team whose country was on the British government’s red list for COVID-19. This step was taken by the club because they did not want their players to undergo isolation for 10 days after returning home to defend the country. This condition can make the player absent in two games.

The Brazilian Football Federation (CBF) did not accept the club’s policy. They reportedly sanctioned players who did not fulfill the Selecao’s call-up at the international break last week with a five-day ban from the last match Brazil played in the international break, Friday (10/9/2021).

This CBF sanction makes Alisson, Firmino, and Fabinho threatened with not being able to play in the match against Leeds United in the Premier League match, Sunday (12/9/2021) night WIB. This situation is clearly confusing Liverpool manager, Juergen Klopp.

Klopp said that until now he does not know whether Liverpool’s Brazilian trio can play or not in the match against Leeds. He said there was a meeting going on to resolve the issue.

“I can say what I know: I don’t know at the moment. We’ll see, there are meetings going on,” Klopp was quoted as saying by Liverpool’s official website.

“The thing I want to say about that is, let’s look at the full case. So, we all know we are in the middle of a pandemic, which is difficult for all sectors of life and for football as well.”

The German manager then regretted the club’s position which seemed to only be able to accept the existing decisions. The reason is, the club was not involved in the preparation of the international break schedule.

“People decide without us these kinds of things. Okay, nobody cares, that’s how it is. They play the Copa America, then they still have more games to play,” Klopp added.

“Then a week or 10 days before the international break we have to accept it, ‘OK, they play now three games and the last game on Thursday night.’

“So we’re not involved in that. Uh, Friday morning, 1:20 a.m., Brazil against Peru. We’re not involved in that. We can’t decide anything about that, we’re just reading these things.”
