Julio Urías in a big plan and Toros emulates the Charros of 1971

With only a few dates remaining to complete the 2021 regular calendar of Major League Baseball (MLB), Mexican pitcher Julio César Urías Acosta, reached the mark of 18 wins in a season registered by the legendary Mochiteco pitcher Teodoro Higuera in 1987, and was placed very close to reaching the records of two other great former Mexican major leaguers such as Fernando “El Toro” Valenzuela and Esteban Loaiza, who set the record of 21 games won in one season, although time may not be enough to reach the goal, being that the ordinary agenda ends next Sunday, October 3, and will practically depend on the trust and support that his manager Dave Roberts decides to give him, who should include him in at least three more matches.

Urías Acosta led the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 5-3 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks by staying on the mound for five innings, where he struck out five batters and allowed only three hits, to claim his 18th win, which he said, allowed him reach the mark of Higuera.

It would be possible perhaps that the culichi pitcher still has about three more outings to the mound of responsibilities and can reach marks such as 19 games won in 1982 by “El Toro” from Etchohuaquila, or the 20 wins by Teodoro Higuera in 1986 ; and even the 21 victories that Valenzuela himself registered in 1986 and Esteban Loaiza in 2003, everything will depend on the opportunities offered by his manager and the one who can maintain the excellent level that he has shown in the almost three months that he has been undefeated.

But a separate issue, the Mexican is the first pitcher to reach that number of victories in the current Major League Baseball (MLB) campaign. Plus, the Dodgers hadn’t boasted such a mark since Clayton Kershaw in 2017, when he went 18-4.

TIJUANA BULLS EQUAL THE CHARROS BRAND

The feat achieved 50 years ago by Charros de Jalisco was replicated on Wednesday night by the Tijuana Bulls, who in an epic comeback, won their second title in the Mexican Baseball League (LMB), the highest professional baseball circuit played. in spring-summer, to become the second team in the history of summer baseball that manages to overcome an adverse score of 3-0 to win the King’s Series trophy.

In 1971 the Charros did it at the hands of Benjamín “Cananea” Reyes, after falling in Games 1, 2 and 3 against Saraperos de Saltillo, and now it was the Bulls who managed to get away with that tremendous china to snatch the crown that has already practically they had on their head the Lions of Yucatan.

On Sunday, September 12, the team led by manager Homar Rojas was very close to seeing their desire to win the championship frustrated in a dramatic duel number five that had to be defined in extra-winnings and that ended up winning the bulls 4-3 to force a sixth collation that would allow the return of hostilities to Baja California territory.

On Tuesday night the horns dramatically tied the battle at three matches, forcing a seventh game to kill or be killed. And a day later, at their home at the Chevron Stadium in Cerro Colorado, and in front of their people, they were able to take advantage of the venue to obtain their second league title in their young history, after the one they conquered in 2017.

Special mention deserves the manager Homar Rojas, who took advantage of the revenge that the king of sports gave him after being fired at the start of the campaign by the Sultans of Monterrey, and today he celebrates with the help of a squad that responded to him on the field and that without a doubt it deserves all the recognition as a very worthy champion team.
