In February Joe Johnson participated in two matches with Team USA as part of the qualifications for the 2022 AmeriCup, then he comes out of another big season in BIG3, again elected MVP. At 40 he is still in good shape and continues to cause misery to the defenders he meets, and he confided to TMZ that he had not given up on the NBA.
“Nah, I’m not done,” Johnson said when asked if he had given up on the idea of making a comeback. “We’ll see what happens… we’ll see. I have nothing definitive to say to you to be honest with you. I’ll try. I just love to play basketball. We could not play last year because of COVID-19 (in BIG3), there we had fun, we tried to defend our title. We failed, but I had fun. ” Joe johnson
In April he had been put on trial by the Milwaukee Bucks but that had come to naught. The All-Star has not set foot in the NBA since 2018, a season he shared between the Jazz and the Rockets. He had played 55 games for 6.7 points at 40.6% including 27.6% away, 3.1 rebounds and 1.5 assist in 21.9 minutes.
