Italian volleyball players continue to perform at the European Championships in Ostrava in a sovereign performance. After losing only two sets in five matches in the basic group, one of them with the Czech national team, they did not give Latvia a chance in the round of 16 and won 3-0 after sets 25:14, 25:13 and 25:16. In Wednesday’s quarterfinals in the Ostravar Arena, they will compete against Germany, which defeated Bulgaria 3: 1.

Ferdinand de Giorgi’s Italian charges celebrated the expected triumph after just 65 minutes of play. They dominated the net in the attack with twelve point blocks, showed five aces and lost only a moment at the beginning of the third set, by a maximum of two points.

The Germans arrived in Ostrava from Tallinn, where they finished second to France in Group D. Although the Bulgarians entered the well-known hall after completing the Czech group B, they only won the second set. At the end of the fourth set, they encountered the German block several times and the championship ended for them.

“We had a lot of chances, but we only used one and got a set. Then we spoiled the light balls and gave the Germans a chance. We lost it ourselves, it was not a good match for us,” said Bulgarian universal Cvetan Sokolov.

“We were quite nervous as always. In the second set, Bulgaria was stronger to serve and we lost concentration. To sum it up, it was a special match. I’m very happy about Jan Zimmermann, who showed a great performance and led our whole team, “The leader of the German universal team, György Grozer, praised his recorder.

The Czech volleyball players will start in the round of 16 on Monday from 7 pm against the Olympic winners from France. Defenders of the title, Serbs and Dutch, succeeded in Gdańsk today only after five hundred battles. Serbia defeated Turkey, the Dutch narrowly the Portuguese. Poland – Russia is already a certain pair from Saturday.
