Returning to the game after spending a year working as a doctor in the Quebec health system during the COVID-19 pandemic, footballer Laurent Duvernay-Tardif was feverish as the Sunday duel between his Kansas City Chiefs and the Cleveland Browns.

The 30-year-old colossus assured that he was ready for this first match of the 2021 calendar, during an interview with “Hi, Hello!”.

The offensive lineman, a Super Bowl winner in early 2020, quickly felt comfortable upon his return to the squad after a year of hiatus.

“A little rusty technically, but in terms of physical form, it was going very well, he explained first. My training camp went really well until I broke a bone in my hand. But I’m back in the game and I’m very excited. It feels good to be back. To meet the guys too, we have a lot of changes in the offensive line. We have a great unit and I can’t wait. ”

In his absence, the Chiefs competed in the Super Bowl again last season. But this time they had to bow to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“Everyone wants to go get (his revenge) and I want to go and win a second in a row,” said the Quebecer. We have our eyes on the Super Bowl, but at the same time, we are aware that it will be won one week at a time. ”

In the meantime, the contingent of players from here has increased in the NFL, with the arrival, in particular, of Pier-Olivier Lestage with the Seattle Seahawks. And that gives Duvernay-Tardif great pleasure.

“It makes me proud to see guys like Antony Auclair, Ryan Hunter, who carve out a place in different NFL teams,” he said. It’s nice to see that, it’s nice to hear French sometimes, on the other side of the line of scrimmage or after a match. More and more, the level of football in Quebec is improving and it’s good to see recruiters come and see what is happening north of the border. ”

“LDT”, the actor

Lately, number 76 of the Chiefs has also made his debut as a comedian, having participated in very successful milk commercials.

“I was parachuted into that environment, I didn’t really know that, the film sets,” he admitted. I really liked it. (…) I think the result is good, honestly, I’m proud! ”

That said, one should not expect to see him embark on a third career in this field.

“Honestly, it’s too stressful for me, I think I prefer to focus on football and medicine!”
