Novak Djokovic, who on September 12 yielded the final of the US Open to Daniil Medvedev, has confirmed today that he will not be in the Masters 1,000 in Indian Wells (October 7 to 17).

The world number one, at 34, made it clear, after losing the option to add his twenty-first ‘Grand Slam’, that the reason he keeps playing tennis is to add more majors and defend Serbia.

Novak is not motivated by being the leader in the ranking of titles of category Masters 1,000 in which he ties to 36 wound with Rafael Nadal. Nor will he be the one with the most master crowns. He has five, one from the historic top of Roger Federer.

The Serbian wants to go down in history by adding bigger than anyone. For now is tied at twenty crowns with Federer and Nadal. And the Australian Open, a tournament in which he has won nine times, appears on the calendar from January 17 to 30, 2022. Before, however, there is the final phase of the Davis Cup in Madrid, on November 25 to December 5.

Novak, who was on vacation in Bosnia, remains in Belgrade, his hometown, although he has not been seen again wielding a racket.
