The Disabled Sports Association of Lower Saxony (BSN) was looking for – and found – the athletes of the year this year. “Disabled Athlete of the Year” is Angelina Salli.
The 22-year-old was chosen to succeed the para-triathlete Christiane Reppe. Angelina Salli is ID judoka. ID Judo is for people with an intellectual disability. The international term “ID” stands for “intellectual disability”. Salli’s greatest sporting triumph was winning the 2019 European Championship in the over 78 kilogram class. The Hanoverian has also won medals at the International German Championships, the Youth Country Cup and the Special Olympics.

Since 2005 judoka
Angelina Salli has been pursuing her passion for judo since 2005, initially at TuS Bothfeld. She has been training at the police sports club in Hanover for almost ten years. Salli’s trainer Mirja Henrici certifies the ID-Judoka “very, very much potential”. The young athlete describes her sporting goals as follows: “I would like to take part in many courses and at some point achieve the black belt.” A big dream for her is participation in a world championship.
Everyone won
The 21st edition of the gala in favor of the best athletes of the BSN took place this year in the GOP-Varieté in Hanover. Previously, the Lower Saxony were called from February 12th to March 10th for their Vote your favorite. In the end, everyone who stood for election won. With the nomination of the six young talents, the BSN would like to give everyone an additional boost in motivation, said BSN President Karl Finke.
