SECRETLY CANADIAN-POPSTOCK!, 2021

Text: XAVIER VALIÑO.

Faye Webster was destined to be a musician, keeping in mind her family’s tradition of country and bluegrass musicians. What no one expected is that he would show such a level of confidence as to debut at 16 with Run & tell (2013). In 2017 she continued with her self-titled album on the Awful label, which got her to sign her Secretly Canadian (Yoko Ono, The War on Drugs, ANOHNI, Damien Jurado, Whitney …) and with whom she edited the album that gave her to know internationally, Atlanta Millionaires Club (2019).

Two years later he reappears with a fourth album that he already advanced somewhat last year with the singles “In a good way” and “Better distractions”, perhaps the most immediate. The rest of the songs included in this album follow the same path of folk-country covered by a soft soul instrumentation, in which the use of pedal steel stands out. Among them stand out “A dream with a baseball player”, the almost Latin “Kind of”, the most rabid “Cheers” or “Stranger”, embellished by a string section.
