The number one overall pick from the first round of the last NFL draft, Trevor Lawrence, made his long-awaited debut in the best American football league in the world. He did it this Sunday commanding the offensive of the Jaguars Jacksonville against the Houston Texans in week one of the regular season.
Many of the focus of the most popular sports fans in the United States were staring at the “Wonder rookie”. The quarterback dazzled all of college football with his performances at the University of Clemson, which allowed him to be the top quarterback prospect in the draft for many NFL teams.
In the second quarter, with the Jaguars trailing by 14 points, Lawrence released his right arm from the 25-yard line of the offensive zone and with a pinpoint pitch found receiver Manhertz to register his first touchdown pass in the NFL. The debutant was congratulated by the rest of his teammates, who celebrated his great move.
Jacksonville’s defense suffered consistently in the last zone, which allowed Houston to take a significant lead in the first half and in the first moments of the third quarter. The situation was up the coast at all times for Lawrence, who played with the adverse score throughout the game and with the pressure of the entire stadium on top.
In the final moments of the third quarter, Lawrence led his offense on a play from midfield and, with great confidence, threw the ball into the deep left sector of rival territory. The pass came into the hands of receiver D. Chark, who only had to bypass the last defender and fall into the end zone. With this, the quarterback recorded a 44-yard touchdown pass to put the momentary score at 14-34 against.
For the remaining minutes of the last period, the rookie quarterback did not find safety again on the field. In an oversight, Lawrence sent a pass to no man’s land, which was intercepted by a Texan defender.. This was the ex-Clemson’s first interception in his just-started NFL career.
The game ended in a 21-37 victory for the Houston Texans. Nevertheless, Lawrence left good feelings for many sectors of the media and the fans of the NFL themselves, in his first appearance in the professional league.
Trevor lost a match for the first time in his entire career, taking into account his passage through high school, high school and university soccer. In total he had won 68 games, without receiving any setbacks until this Sunday. This can be seen as unequivocal proof of the talent that Clemson’s rookie possesses, which he must polish to dazzle at the highest level of competition.
Lawrence recorded 332 passing yards and three touchdown passes in the game against Houston. These statistics position him as the fourth quarterback with the best numbers in his debut in NFL history. Cam Newton he remains in force as the best rookie rookie with 422 yards obtained in 2011.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are far from being considered among the best teams in the league, which would mean a major challenge in Lawrence’s career in his quest to excel and achieve positive results in his first few campaigns. His quality and mentality will be his best weapons to consolidate himself as a reference in his position.
