Host fighters take advantage of their home advantage

BAD HOMBURG – The German judo championships for the age groups, which HTG Bad Homburg hosted in Primodeus Park on Niederstedter Weg on the occasion of its 175th anniversary, took place under strict hygiene requirements. For almost 270 fighters – including almost 50 women – these title fights were a big step towards normality in sport.

The best placement of the HTG participants was achieved by Klaus Engelhardt, who became German runner-up in the age group over 50 and the weight class up to 73 kilograms. In addition, Martin Zackor won the bronze medal in the “over 45” (up to 73 kg) as did Jürgen Gesell in the “over 50” (up to 100 kg).

The hosts also made use of their home advantage in the south-west German individual championships for the juniors “U21”, which were also organized by HTG Bad Homburg in Primodeus Park on Sunday.

Southwest champions in 2021 were Marek Zimmermann (weight class up to 60 kg), Michel Markloff (up to 73 kg) and Slata Zlatin. She secured the title in the weight class over 78 kilograms without a fight and the associated qualification for the “Germans” – there had been no other fighters in this weight class.

There was also silver for Ron Schwarzer, who was inferior to his teammate Zimmermann in the final of the 60 kg category, and for Lena Ziemer in the class up to 57 kg. In the weight class up to 81 kg, Bruno Rhein took fifth place.

“It was a strenuous weekend for us, but the bottom line is that we can be very satisfied with the way these two major events went,” said Andreas Frost, head of the judo department, with a positive conclusion.
